In The Style Of Simon Winnall

I started by using this simple photograph done by Simon Winnall for my inspiration, i decide i was going to used leaves for my camouflage rather than the traditional army pattern. I got a cardboard box and cut the top of them cut a semi circle in the bottom for a head whole, i then covered the box in individual leaves which was very time consuming as i used a lot of small leaves. I got my model to wear a swimming hat to cover up her hair but i also tried some shots without the hat on. I tried different poses with her eyes open and closed and turning her head in different directions. Below is some of my photographs i took.

I used the studio lights when taking these photos as i though they would work best with very strong lighting. after taking them i decided the ones with the swimming hat worked best to i picked the best one of them and started to photo shop it.

This is the photograph i decided to use above on the left, i started by changing the contrast and brightness so that the leaves would stand out more. I used a tool pick out a bit of her skin colour and then fill in the swimming hat with this colour because without doing this you would be able to see the blue though the leaves that i am going to put onto her face, this will make them look less realistic. After doing all of this it looked like the photo below on the left.

Next using the photographs i took of just leaves, i individually cut out leaves and pasted them onto my photo and placed  them on her face as a layer, after i had done this looked like the photo on the left below. I wasnt pleased with this i didnt think it blended well so i decided to try another way. I removed the background photo so i was just left with my leaves that were covering her face i then flattened them so they were as one layer. I then upped the contrast and brightness and the layer of leaves looked like this below on the right.

I then added my layer of leaves over her face and used a tool so that the layer of leaves would curve around her face to make them blend more. I next used the burn tool too darken the really light areas and the gaps between some leaves, i used the dodge tool on the dark areas to lighten  them up. After doing this i decided you couldnt see her features very well so i used the burn tool to darken things such as her lips, nose, eyes and eyebrows so they could be seeen more visiably and the dodge tool to create shadows.  Below is my final photograph.
