In The Style Of Steven Meisel

I decided to base my images on this one of Meisels to the left.  I started by laying down a few different patterned fabric for the background, i then had my model have her hair up in the same style as the woman in meisels photograph with two flower in the front. my model wore a plan dress with a black belt and i am planning to photoshop a pattern on to her dress and also photoshop on some tattoo. i started by laying my model onto all of the fabrics and positioned them into place. i tried doing my photograph in the same poses as Meisel having my model with something in her mouth and i also tried some of my own poses without her having it in her mouth. All of my photograph i took are below.

Photoshop

This is the photograph i decided to photoshop.
I started by using my marquee tool to select area of the fabric to over up the background area that didn't have fabric on them this took quite a few layers to do this. I then added the  cutout filter to create the more soft flawless skin look that Meisels photographs have i final changed the brightness and contrast and it looked like the photo below.
Next i used the marquee tool again to select and copy some of the fabric to over up the grey area at the top of her dress, i used the rubber tool to make it the right shape and it looked like the image to the right.

After this i had to add in all of the tattoos so i used black and white tattoo images from google and individually copied them onto her body. For each tattoo i had to resize it and put it in the right possion with some of them they didnt look realistic so i had to change to opacity lowering it to make them blend more this seem to work making them look more realistic. The photograph to the right shows the image once i had applied a few tattoos.

To finnish it off i added more tattoos, used the burn tool to darken her cheeks to make them look like she had more make up on then added black eyeliner and light blue eyeshadow with the paint tool.

I wasnt that pleased with my final outcome of the image, i dont think it works that well. I think is because i have used dark fabrics in the background so they are too strong and harsh, i am going to re-try this image with lighter fabric and also i am going to put her in a flowery dress this time rather than covering her in the fabric. I think this will improve the image and give it the effect i want.

Steven Meisel

Steven Meisel is another photographers work that i have looked at, he is an American photographer and is now considered one of the most successful fashion photographers in the industry shooting for both the us and Italian vogue. These photographs of Meisels caught my eye, i found them very interesting and i see them to be a type of camouflage as with all the different fabric, her patterned dress and tattoo's it makes it hard to tell the difference between them all camouflaging her body into the fabric. I also really liked these photograph because they are very beautiful eligant looking. They are also very smooth looking as there isnt much detail to her face making her skin look flawless. These photographs are very inspiracional they have there own unique style of fashion aswell as being camouflage. I think it takes the idea of camouflage out of the box, i am going to try taking my own photos in the style of his.

In The Style Of Simon Winnall

I also decide to try imitating this photograph of Simon Winnall's in my own way as i found it very inspirational. I like how the parts coming off of the sofa, his hands head and feet are not camouflaged in with the it and also how you can still see the outline of his body. I started my covering my sofa in a patterned rug as the rug was black and white i got my model to wear all black with just his feet hands and head showing. The clothes he wore were also tight fitted so i could see his body shape though them. I got my model  to lay on the sofa in the same poses as the model in Winnalls photograph and i also tried out a different one. I tried some shots with magazines and things on the floor like in Winnals photo. I tried to take my photographs from different angles, front above below and face on with the sofa. Here are some on my shots below.

I used strong lighting when taking this shots as it improves the images i also took a photograph of the sofa on its own and the pattern to help me camouflage him in with the sofa. I decide the best way to be able to do it was by cutting out his clothes but leaving a thin line of it in some areas to create shadow and outline of his body and then laying the image onto the one of the sofa on its own.
Photoshop

This photograph was the one i decided to use, i started my upping the brightness and contrast of the image to make the sofa stand out more. Next  i used the lasso tool to cut his clothes out leaving a thin line of the black clothing in some areas to show the outline of his body and create shadows like on Winnalls photograph. This will stopping my model from looking flat. After doing these things it looked like the photo below on the left.

Next i added this photograph of the sofa on its own as a layers but i put it as the background layer and my original image on top so the pattern would show through on the areas i have cut out. I couldnt do it by lining up the sofa as then you could see the crease of the sofa and the body shape didnt stand out so it didnt look right. So i dragged the image up so the edge of the sofa was used as his body and his body stands out more looking more 3D which worked well. So i added another layer of the sofa to cover the his arm that not covered by the first layer. I also up the brightness and contrast of the sofa layers to make them blend in.

Next i used the lasso tool to cut out the back panel of the sofa behind him then copy it as another layer. I placed it on top  edged the brightness and contrast making it a little darker so you could see the outline of his body on the sofa a little stronger. I then flatted the images so was all in one layer as it was getting confusing with all the layers. I then added a new blank layer and with the spray can sprayed on line of grey in areas around his body to create the shadow. They looked a little to dark so i changed the opacity to fade them in a bit. My final photography is below i am very pleased with it and think it worked very well.

In The Style Of Simon Winnall

I started by using this simple photograph done by Simon Winnall for my inspiration, i decide i was going to used leaves for my camouflage rather than the traditional army pattern. I got a cardboard box and cut the top of them cut a semi circle in the bottom for a head whole, i then covered the box in individual leaves which was very time consuming as i used a lot of small leaves. I got my model to wear a swimming hat to cover up her hair but i also tried some shots without the hat on. I tried different poses with her eyes open and closed and turning her head in different directions. Below is some of my photographs i took.

I used the studio lights when taking these photos as i though they would work best with very strong lighting. after taking them i decided the ones with the swimming hat worked best to i picked the best one of them and started to photo shop it.
Photoshop

This is the photograph i decided to use above on the left, i started by changing the contrast and brightness so that the leaves would stand out more. I used a tool pick out a bit of her skin colour and then fill in the swimming hat with this colour because without doing this you would be able to see the blue though the leaves that i am going to put onto her face, this will make them look less realistic. After doing all of this it looked like the photo below on the left.

Next using the photographs i took of just leaves, i individually cut out leaves and pasted them onto my photo and placed  them on her face as a layer, after i had done this looked like the photo on the left below. I wasnt pleased with this i didnt think it blended well so i decided to try another way. I removed the background photo so i was just left with my leaves that were covering her face i then flattened them so they were as one layer. I then upped the contrast and brightness and the layer of leaves looked like this below on the right.

I then added my layer of leaves over her face and used a tool so that the layer of leaves would curve around her face to make them blend more. I next used the burn tool too darken the really light areas and the gaps between some leaves, i used the dodge tool on the dark areas to lighten  them up. After doing this i decided you couldnt see her features very well so i used the burn tool to darken things such as her lips, nose, eyes and eyebrows so they could be seeen more visiably and the dodge tool to create shadows.  Below is my final photograph.
